Agadir Gardens

Holidays to Agadir offer an opportunity to enjoy the wide sandy beaches or if you prefer, to spend time in a number of beautiful Agadir gardens. The residential and tourist areas are separated by lush lawns and incredible blossoms which grow in the warm weather conditions adding vibrancy and character to this lively city and resort.

The history of Agadir does however hold tragedy as in 1960 an earthquake ravaged it, 15,000 people lost their lives and 50,000 were left homeless. Today the city is flourishing and the only reminder of this natural tragedy are the beautiful Agadir memorial gardens, named Ancienne Talborjt. They lie just west of the city centre, a site where you will find a mosque and cenotaph set on lush green lawns as well as a eulogy to the dear citizens of Agadir. These gardens are a place for the locals to remember the near and dear ones they lost. These sombre Agadir gardens are found on a mound and overlook the fishing harbour which offers a stunning view.

If you enjoy history and gardens then make time to visit the Jardim de Olhao. This Agadir garden was constructed to commemorate the relationship and friendship Morocco has had with Portugal in the past.  These gardens in Agadir are brimming with different types of plants and trees. They are beautifully landscaped and are a playground to children and adults a like.

If you are on holiday in Agadir and would like to encounter some wildlife then you should spend some time at the Valley of the birds. This is not by definition a zoo but does contain a number of different animals including South American llamas, Australian wallabies, Moroccan Barbary sheep, Dorcas gazelles and a wide variety of birds. It is set along a half mile stretch of dried out river bed, which makes a very pleasant and shaded walkway running between Boulevard Hassan II and Boulevard du 20 Août. This setting makes it perfect for the birds and if you want to get a more intimate experience you can choose to try the walk through aviary. There is a sandpit for children and this is definitely a good way to spend a few hours of your time.

A short drive from the garden city Agadir is the Oued Massa Nature Reserve.  A holiday to Agadir must include some time spent here as it plays host to an array of sub tropical and rare birds, flowers, plants and other animals. Protected, it is home to Sand Grouse, Cranes, Turnstone, Waders, Godwit, Snipe, Little Crake and Dunlin as well as the rare Bald Ibis. You can see the lagoon or just wander the lands; it is a fantastic and magical experience.

The gardens in Agadir are varied but each has something unique to offer and the imagery will stay with you forever.
