San Domenico Palace Hotel , Taormina

This former 15th century Dominican monastery, in central Taormina, isone of the world’s most historic hotels where still today frescos and furniture of the original monastery echo ancient history.
Historic patrons such as Goethe and Wagner were inspired by the shady, tranquil gardens with their flowering orange trees, scented roses and Jasmine. Nowadays, those same organic gardens once tended by monks supply fresh herbs for the outstanding Sicilian dishes of the Michelin star restaurant, Principe Cerami.
The pretty pool is skirted by panoramic terraces with excellent views of an ancient Greek theatre and majestic Mount Etna, whilst indoors, the Oratorio dei Frati bar centres on the grand fireplace of the refectory.
The hotel rooms range from small one time cloister rooms in the original Monastery section to contemporary, larger rooms in the newer and slightly more luxurious section of the hotel.
