Meaning ‘old house of Palheiro’, the Casa Velha is a wonderfully elegant country house hotel, formerly a hunting lodge and built over 200 years ago.
The atmosphere is peaceful as you cross polished wood floors and step out onto the terrace. Rooms are individually decorated in a traditional style with pretty floral fabrics and antique style furniture.
Many rooms look out onto the beautiful gardens of the hotel and the Palheiro Gardens, carefully planted with exotic trees and plants from all over the world. If you play golf, the 18-hole Palheiro course is next door and the club house has captivating views over Funchal, 7km away (daily courtesy bus).
In 2009 the hotel opened their beautiful new spa - a haven of relaxation already popular with guests. you can enjoy a peaceful afternoon tea in the morning room or a game of croquet on the lawn. For dinner sample the delights of the à la carte menu or perhaps indulge in the divine 7-course Gourmet Menu, accompanied by select Portuguese wines.
